Here is a walkthrough of my latest version of the Raspberry Pi Home Automation App on YouTube:
And Finally…. what got me hooked on the Raspberry Pi:
The App has the ability to close or open the garage door when leaving the geofence area that you set during installation, it also turns on and off my webcams that face indoors when I leave or enter the geofence zone. I also gave it logic so that if two people riding in the same car have the same app it will not close the door when the second persons phone realizes it has entered the geofence zone. The app works with my Home Automation Hub app to open and close the door via the Raspberry Pi. It also sends texts when the garage door is opened or shut. The Hub app allows you to enable or disable text alerts system wide via the Home Automation Remote, but I also allow overrides so that even if alerts are turned off you can have certain devices text you no matter what. That is how I have mine set up for the garage door, at night I can turn off text alerts so I don’t get woken up when the Home Automation Hub monitors it’s battery level and turns on it’s own electrical outlet to charge itself when needed. But it will wake me up if the garage door is opened at night even if I have text alerts disabled. Texting also provides a great way to Log your home automation events.
